Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was widely used in construction and manufacturing materials in the past because of its durability and fire-resistant properties. However, when asbestos fibers are released into the air and inhaled, they can become lodged in the lungs and cause serious health problems, such as lung cancer, mesothelioma (a type of cancer that affects the lining of the lungs), and asbestosis (a lung disease that causes scarring and shortness of breath).

This is why it is important to not disturb asbestos and take steps to prevent the release of asbestos fibers into the air. If asbestos-containing materials are found in good condition and left undisturbed, they generally do not pose a health risk. However, if asbestos-containing materials are damaged, crumbling, or otherwise disturbed, fibers can be released into the air, which can put people at risk of inhaling them.

If you suspect that your home or workplace may contain asbestos, it is important to have it inspected by a qualified professional and to not disturb or disturb it unless you are trained and equipped to do so safely. If asbestos is present and in good condition, it’s best to leave it alone and place a warning label on it. If it’s damaged, or you are planning to renovate or demolish the building, it’s important to hire a professional asbestos abatement contractor to remove it safely.
